Handmade Stoneware Pottery & Sculpture
by Mary Winker
In 1991, I set out to take a pottery class at St. Cloud State University where I was working for Aramark in the Residential Dining facility on campus .
I have worked as a chef, caterer, host and planner of many events, and
believe that the dishes on and in which we serve our food should be as beautiful
and pleasing as the food we are eating. It was my goal to make plates like the ones my mom had bought when we were living in South Africa. While growing up, she would use this set of stoneware on the very best of occasions. Those blue, ceramic pieces was what I was after, but once I sat down at the potter’s wheel, it became so much more. When creating my pottery, I found that I did not think or worry about anything else. The world around me did not exist. I fell in love with the creative process and
each piece became a part of me.
After a long hiatus, I am thrilled to be creating pottery once again at Lill Street Art Center near my home in Chicago.
Thank you for visiting.
